One of the most important elements of operating a healthy and successful reef aquarium is balance. Seachem Reef Buffer is a top of the line marine additive that has been scientifically designed to carefully balance sensitive marine aquariums by raising the pH level to an optimal 8.3 without overdosing, while raising carbonate alkalinity at the same time. Reef Buffer is composed of a blend of carbonate and bicarbonate salts which results in the formula yielding a pK of roughly 8.6 in saltwater. Comes in a 500 gram container.
Directions:
Carefully check pH and alkalinity before use. Use 5 g (1 level teaspoon) for every 150 L (40 US gallons) of aquarium water to raise the pH level by approximately 0.1 pH units (this will also raise alkalinity by about 0.5 meq/L). Dissolve the fomula in at least 250 mL (one cup) of freshwater and then add the mixture into the aquarium. Generally, the pH of natural sea water is between 8.25-8.30 and in a properly established reef aquarium these pH adjustments may be necessary on a biweekly to semiweekly schedule to maintain optimal levels for sensitive coral. Dosing requirements will vary depending on the bioload of the tank, but do not exceed the recommended dose without checking your pH and alkalinity first (alkalinity should not exceed more than 6 meq/L).
If an alkalinity of 6 meq/L has been reached and a pH of at least 8.20 has not been attained or noticeable cloudiness does not clear within 15 minute, then the aquarium environment has not been properly ionically balanced. To restore this essential ionic balance, simply perform a water change or adjust the magnesium and calcium levels to approximately 3:1 Mg:Ca.
DO NOT OVERDOSE:
With excess levels of alkalinity, loss of calcium, magnesium, and strontium may increase significantly. Do not directly mix Seachem Reef Buffer with any calcium, magnesium, or strontium supplements. For best results, ensure that calcium & carbonate additives are added on alternate days or at least 30 minutes apart.
